President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping $200 million expansion of the White House: a 90,000-square-foot “White House State Ballroom” designed to seat up to 650 guests—more than triple the capacity of the current East Room. Set to begin construction in September 2025 and open before the end of his term, the ballroom will replace the East Wing, with offices relocating during the project. The structure will be built to match the neoclassical style of the White House, featuring Corinthian columns, gold chandeliers, and tall arched windows. Trump called the initiative a “great legacy project,” aiming to eliminate the need for tents at state dinners and host grand events that reflect presidential stature. The $200 million cost will be covered by private donations, not taxpayer funds. This ballroom joins a series of Trump-led White House updates, including new flagpoles, gold-leaf décor, and changes to the Rose Garden layout.
