Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron are suing U.S. commentator Candace Owens in Delaware for defamation, accusing her of pushing a conspiracy theory that Brigitte is a man who stole someone’s identity, groomed Macron, and is part of a CIA mind-control plot. The lawsuit targets Owens’ viral series “Becoming Brigitte”, which the Macrons say is filled with lies and malice.
Owens, who has over 4 million YouTube subscribers, refuses to back down—selling merch mocking Brigitte and claiming the lawsuit attacks free speech. The Macrons’ 219-page complaint includes photos, family history, and French legal rulings that already dismissed these rumors. They’re now seeking “substantial” damages to restore their names and send a message against disinformation.
Legal analysts say proving actual malice in U.S. courts won’t be easy—but this is the Macrons’ final shot to silence a story they say has gone way too far.
