A peaceful family hike in Washington’s Olympic National Park turned into a nightmare when a mountain lion lunged at a 4-year-old child, biting the young boy in a sudden, unprovoked attack. The animal emerged from the forest without warning and latched onto the child before the family could react. Fortunately, the parents fought off the big cat, and the child was rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Wildlife officials tracked and euthanized the mountain lion, citing aggressive behavior and public safety concerns. The attack has prompted the National Park Service to issue an alert, urging hikers to stay vigilant, avoid hiking alone, and report any sightings of mountain lions immediately. Incidents like this are rare, but they underscore the unpredictable reality of sharing wilderness space with apex predators.
